Five Common Skin Problems and Solutions

Skin adversity is a common enemy of women everywhere. From rosacea to acne scarring from years ago, there is certainly no shortage of skin problems. Thankfully, there are just as many skin solutions. Here are five of the most common skin problems and their corresponding solutions:

Dry, Flaky Skin

  • The first thing that you can do to combat dry skin is by drinking water. Believe it or not, you need to hydrate with about eight full glasses of water a day to maintain a healthy complexion. Water washes toxins out of your body and keeps them from irritating your skin. It also keeps everything else in your body functioning healthily, too.
  • Second, moisturizing creams are a great way to get rid of flakes and peeling skin. The best types of creams are those that have the most natural ingredients – especially creams with Vitamin E included in the ingredients. Vitamin E boosts collagen production, which is an essential nutrient for maintaining healthy skin.
  • Third, try taking two to three tablespoons of either Flax Seed, Olive or Cod Liver Oil every day. That’s right. The Vitamin E and essential Fatty Acids in these oils will smooth out your skin and give it s softness that you haven’t had since you were a child. Another natural ointment that works like magic is applying Coconut cream or oil as a topical solution to your skin.
  • Fourth, a mask of Olive Oil, Yogurt and Honey will soften and moisturize skin if you use it at least once a week. Leave it on for an hour. The nutrients and vitamins in all three ingredients are great for your skin.

Rosacea

Rosacea is a common problem among middle age women, and sometimes younger. Don’t like looking as if you’re sunburned in the dead of winter? There are easy ways to fight this condition:

  • The first is to reduce your exposure to irritants such as lotions, soaps and perfumes. If you have Rosacea, then your skin is probably more sensitive than others, meaning you have to watch what you apply.
  • Hair care products may appear to have nothing whatsoever to do with your red cheeks and nose, but hold on. It does. Oftentimes people don’t realize that the products in their hair are rubbing against their face all night and throughout the day. This can irritate your skin and cause your Rosacea to “come out.” Switch to natural ingredients.
  • Want to hide the redness in your skin tone throughout the course of the day? No problem. Purchasing makeup is something that women love to do. Make sure you buy a foundation that is infused with a green tint. This will pretty much hide all of the redness in your skin.

Wrinkles

Nobody likes wrinkles, but at some point, everyone has to deal with them.

  • Loss of elasticity is a big reason for wrinkles, so getting periodic injections of collagen into the skin can help maintain a smooth complexion.
  • Stay out of the sun! Sun tanning and sunburns cause wrinkles, so protect yourself by wearing SPF and shielding your face from sunbeams.
  • Rose water facial spray will help tighten your skin over time, and it helps to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet and wrinkles around the mouth.

Oily Skin

  • An excess amount of oil can lead to acne, regardless of what your age is. Try using a product that soaks up oil in the skin, like Proactive or Noxzema. Using a cleansing soap with sulfur-based ingredients should also help.
  • Try to cut back on foods with lots of wheat or food that has been deep fried.

Scarring

Scarring can be emotionally damaging for women. There are ways to fade the appearance of scars –or get rid of them altogether.

  • The first step is to take Vitamin E internally. It heals damaged skin tissues and maintains optimal skin health.
  • One product that is outstanding when it comes to scarring or uneven skin tone correction is Clinique’s Even Better serum.
  • Drinking Green Tea every day, keeping hydrated, staying out of the sun and using topical Aloe Vera treatments are also extremely helpful.

Fortunately, no matter what your skin concern is there are techniques and beauty products to help you.

Stress Got You Down?

They say being in college will be the best time of your life. I don’t remember anyone ever saying that it will be the most stressful. Compared to the rest of my life, college has definitely been the most stressful so far. College students have never been put in a situation like this before where they have had to deal without their parents and without someone holding their hand and telling them what to do. Because of this, college is stressful! Here are some five ways to manage that stress.

1. Get organized

If your life feels chaotic in your head, it is probably chaotic in real life too! Whenever I need to do a lot of homework or work on a big project, I always make sure that I go to a clean, organized place to do it. Keep your room clean throughout the semester and if you don’t, take the time to completely clean it one day. You will find that just by organizing your atmosphere, your head becomes a little bit clearer also. Another way to get organized is to write out all of your assignments in order of importance. By doing this, you can physically see the amount of things you need to get done. It helps you prioritize which will relieve your stress.

2. Exercise

At the beginning or end of the day, I recommend going on a run or doing some yoga. Getting exercise can clear your head and allow you to think. Exercise makes you feel good and it keeps you healthy. I used to do yoga a few times a week and it allowed me to simply stretch and relax my body. It was a great way to keep my mind off of stress.

3. Stay Healthy

Besides exercise you need to make sure you are staying healthy in all other aspects of your life. Make sure you are getting plenty of sleep every night. I have found that I can usually focus better in the morning after I get some sleep, instead of trying to rush all of my homework at night. Eating right is also necessary in managing stress. Getting sick is always just one other issue that can stress people out. By eating good, healthy food that your body needs, you can prevent sickness and be less stressed out.

4. Have some fun

Work before play, yes. Work without play? NO! Definitely take the time to go out with friends and do something fun. There is no better way to relieve your stress than to go to a movie or go out to eat with a big group. College is hard and it is even harder when you don’t give yourself enough study breaks. Having a social life is crucial because if you don’t you will find yourself lonely and that will add on more stress in your life.

5. Don’t sweat the small stuff

Last but not least, the most simple way to not stress is to just not stress. Don’t think about it all the time! If you tell yourself you are stressed then you definitely will be. Just take things one day at a time. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Try and be laid back and go with the flow. If you can do that in school, you will be able to manage your stress in a positive way.

Top 3 Reasons Why You Should Wear Glasses

Glasses are worn by a huge number of people in the UK, nearly 45% of people have worn, or will wear glasses at some point in their lives to be exact. This shows the size of the market and the need for most people to be able to get cheap and practical eyewear. There are 3 main reasons why you should wear glasses though and they will be looked at in this post.

Eye Health

Glasses are beneficial for the health of your eyes, and your general wellbeing. Wearing glasses can reduce headaches and migraine, as well as helping you see better. Improved vision is a gift to anyone who struggles to read or see objects from afar, so glasses bring welcome relief. If you suffer from astigmatism or a lazy eye, then wearing glasses can also prevent the eye from becoming worse. You obviously do not want your vision to deteriorate over time, and wearing glasses can help to correct any problem and stop it from becoming worse. Glasses do help your eyes maintain their condition and sometimes improve it which is great for people who suffer from basic eye problems. Glasses will benefit your overall health but putting less strain on your eyes and the muscles around your face that you use to squint and focus. The health benefits have no end. If you have hay fever, then glasses can also repel pollen from entering your eyes, meaning you will suffer less from allergies like these.

Fashionable

Wearing glasses is also extremely fashionable as the whole ‘geek chic’ look is in full swing. Wearing glasses can totally change the way you look, meaning you can change your style by just changing your frames. Designer glasses are made by a number of in-demand and luxury labels including Prada, D&G, Gucci and Armani. These glasses are an easy way to get on the fashion ladder if you don’t have much confidence. Designer good are usually very expensive, especially when we talk about clothes and bags, but eyewear is still very affordable so you can get some luxury designer shades for a price that is lower than you would expect. Being fashionable is only a few steps away, and you can alter your frames based on your mood for total flexibility about how you look and what sort of impression you want to give off. Take a step up the fashion ladder now by getting the right pair of eyeglasses for you.

Appear more intellectual

Wearing glasses instantly makes you look a lot more clever, which is important nowadays because people take into account how you look so much. If you are going to a job interview and want to look smart to help you get that dream job then glasses might actually help you. Looking clever these days is a very important asset and if you have the stylish option to boost your credentials then you should take it!

Are We Going to Live Forever? Speculations for the Next Five Years

Perhaps not quite forever, but predictions of human live span have been steadily rising over the years.  Common diseases that, only a few years ago spelled death for fifty and sixty year olds, such as breast cancer and heart disease, are routinely treated and cured, adding many years of life.

The average life span in the United States is about 81 for women and 76 for men. (And no, you cannot blame the old joke for the difference: Q: Why do men die younger than women? A: Because they want to.) These statistics are 4% higher than only 20 years ago. Progress in diagnosing diseases earlier and better, new cures for old diseases and, hard as it is to imagine, healthier lifestyles, have contributed to these dramatic improvements. We have not really found the cure to most of these diseases, but we have found ways to live longer with them.

Despite the fact that the population is becoming more and more overweight and diabetes and certain other diseases are on the rise, the mortality rate of most diseases of the past is falling. Part of this is improved standard of living; most of us no longer have to spend countless hours working in the fields, or unsanitary workshops, or breathing heavily polluted air. Despite the protests of some, progress in healthier lifestyles has been made, simply because of technological progress.

The question is will this trend continue, or has science and technology reached a plateau and the average of 78 years and a ceiling of 115 years is all we can expect to see? Longevity experts predict that we may very well see human in the developed world living well past 130 years, and with good, if not perfect grasp of their mental facilities. Most researchers recognize the futility of developing products that extend life, without extending brain function along with it.

There have been several scientific developments may lead to interventions that could extend human life expectancy beyond the current outside lifespan. The enzyme telomerase is said to overcome the limit of somatic cell divisions, stopping or at least slowing cell senescence.  Caloric restriction, which has been shown to extend the lifespan of mice by up to 30% is another experiment being closely followed. There are pharmaceutical therapies being introduced that could slow ageing or prevent various age-related diseases.

If the progress of the last twenty years is any prediction, we may well see a lifespan average of close to 100 years, and a ceiling of close to 150 over the next twenty years. Let’s hope we all have something to keep us busy all that while.

Let’s admit it, life is short. And we seem to think that we will live forever and that we spend time and money as though we will always be here. And the sad part is we don’t tell our loved ones how much we love them because we assume there’s always tomorrow. In fact, you can change this by acting now and do a people search of your old friends and relatives and let them know how much you care for them before it’s too late.

The Key Principles in Exercise

There is one reason why people exercise and that is to be healthy or at least look the part. What many people do not know is that there are underlying principles when it comes to exercise. By understanding these principles, people will have a much better chance of reaching their fitness and health goals. There are different exercise and fitness programs available to people but the principles behind them are all the same.

You must understand that there are certain things that determine the effectiveness of an exercise program. Knowing these principles is important because they can help you in formulating fitness goals. It is also important that you consider these principles in developing or choosing a particular fitness regimen.
This article will tell you what these principles are so you can begin applying them to your workout routines. Keep these principles to heart and you will have a more fruitful experience when it comes to exercise and working out.

Workout Frequency. How often you exercise is very important because frequency has much to say about the outcome of an exercise program. If you are looking to lose weight for example, then working out frequently is a must. You must keep yourself active in order to boost your metabolism. On the other hand, if you want to build muscles and bulk up, then you will need to rest for at least a day in between workout sessions. This is to allow your muscles to recuperate. It is actually during times of rest that the muscles of the body grow and develop.

Some exercise routines can be done while others should be performed only for several times for week. For example, it is not advisable to lift weights everyday using the same muscles. It is perfectly OK though to do cardio routines on a daily basis such as jogging or rebounding.

Workout Intensity. The key is to push yourself to do more than your previous session. In this way, you can be sure that your workout program will bear the right fruits. Intensity is actually more important than the time spent in exercise. Thirty minutes of intense exercise is definitely much better than an hour of low-intensity activity. This is the reason why many people wonder why they are not losing weight when they spend hours in the gym a number of times per week.

Workout Duration. As mentioned earlier, intensity is much more important than the length of time you spend working out. This does not mean that spending hours in the gym will not give you results. But you should make sure that every second in the gym is really spent on working out and not on checking out girls or talking to your buddies. Some activities are not meant to be done for a prolonged period of time. For example, running may cause serious injuries to the foot.

If you are very busy then one very good exercise that you can try is rebounding. By jumping on a rebounder, you can get the advantages of a cardio and muscle developing exercise.

What Are The Properties Of Cornsilk And How Does It Improve Your Health?

Sometimes when we close our eyes to the possibilities and truths in life we will not see that something as simple as a thing we see almost every day in one form or the other could be of use to us and our health. Some of use still do not even know until it is too late that the medications that we take and most pharmaceuticals that are sold over the counter or with prescription are derived from the most simple substances that could be found in nature and even has been used for thousands for years by our ancestors. One such example is the corn silk, who would think that something so every day and simple could be of immense value to our health.

Corn Silk

The simplest way to describe a corn silk is that it is a collection of stigmas from the female flowers of the corn and the stigmas are the fine and soft yellowish threads that you see when you open up a corn. Corn Silk is also known as Zea Mays and it is used as a herbal remedy by so many cultures around the world. Corn silk is also known by many other names like mother’s hair, Turkish corn, yu mi xu, maize jagnog or Indian corn. It is considered to be a grass that grows to about 3 meters. The main purpose of these corn silks for the corn is to catch the pollen as it is essentially growing from a female flower of the corn.

Corn Silk for Good Health

The corn silk has been known through various studies to have the ability to be used as a detoxification agent. It is able to be used as a sort of cleanser for the body and in the medicine world to rid the body of toxins. It is able to do this as well through another property that it has which is its diuretic activity which basically help out in the process of detoxification and flushes out fluids with the toxins in it. Furthermore it is able to do it in such a way that the body will not be losing much potassium as other diuretics are not able to because it is considered to be a milder form of diuretic. Other health benefits that the corn silk has are being able to alleviate swelling caused by conditions like gout, carpal tunnel syndrome and an inflamed mucous membrane.

Corn Silk and Urinary Conditions

In the world of modern herbal medicine corn silk has been most popular for its ability to alleviate urinary tract problems such as bed wetting, painful and frequent urination, bloating and stones in the kidney. One of the major ailments that it also has been linked in treating is prostatitis and other prostate problems in which eventually also give it a role in promoting prostate health. Another ailment that it is able to treat is cystitis which is the inflammation of the urinary bladder as its mild diuretic effect while keeping potassium levels balanced has shown importance against alleviating gravel in the bladder.

What Causes An Immune System Dysfunction

Have you ever wondered how our body is able to take care of itself, how it is able to get sick and heal itself, how it is able to get wounded and heal after a few days, how it is able to adapt to certain conditions and how it is able to fight against harmful bacteria and prevent us from getting sick again. If you have, then you will be interested with how the immune system works and also basically what it is. Granting that we are supposed to look at its dysfunction but I believe that the only way for us to have better comprehension of how an immune system is considered to be dysfunctional is by knowing what it is and knowing what it does for the body. In a way, you will never be able to tell if indeed there is a problem with how the immune system is functioning if you do not know how it is when it is efficient.

Immune System

The immune system is a set of cells, tissues and organs that works as a network, each having its own specific tasks in defending the body against attacks form foreign invaders that want to cause harm and damage. The most common enemy of the immune system are microbes such as bacteria, parasites and fungi that cause the body to be infected. The human body is one of the most ideal environments for microbes as it has all they need.

Bacteria thrives in warm places and the body is the perfect place, never too hot and never too cold, the temperature is always just right and it has a lot of different substances to feed from so it never gets hungry in a sense and is in fact well-nourished which is why bacteria can easily increase in number and make a person sicker and can even lead to death if left untreated and that is what we need our immune system for, to help kill bacteria.

However positive is the purpose of the immune system, just like any other good thing, there is always a catch and with this one, the main issue is when it is off target in its healing process or something within the body triggers an imbalance that may cause it to be inefficient and when that happens it can unleash a set of problems like allergic reactions, diabetes and arthritis just to name a few.

Immune System Dysfunction

This condition is basically a form of immune system impairment which is mainly caused by stress and various vitamin and mineral deficiencies according to studies. Stress can cause different reactions from the body, it influences feeling and ultimately behaviour which can lead to other conditions because when there is too much stress for a person it causes imbalance in the body. Mainly the body itself is becoming imbalanced due to constant stress that triggers stress responses too much. For deficiencies of vitamins and minerals the list could go on and on but the main thing would be the lack of vital ones like the antioxidants Vitamin C and E and the mineral Zinc as deficiencies of these substances has been closely linked to immune system impairment conditions just by themselves.

Reducing stress and eating health along with vitamin supplements can help one restore their immune system.  Just one of these three factors will not be enough to help you overcome an immune dysfunction.  What is stopping you from changing your lifestyle and improving your health?

How long Does It Take For Acidophilus To Start Working?

In a world where we are always told to stay clean and away from dirt because they may have bacteria on it, it is a little hard to convince people that they should make sure they take in some bacteria because it will help promote good health. For example, when someone tells you to take something and when you ask what it is they will tell you that it is bacteria, would you easily accept it. You probably will not right? And rightfully so, what will your mother say if ever she heard that you purposely took bacteria as they were usually the ones saying that you should stay away from it.

Well, the thing is, there is no need for fear or apprehensions in taking some types of bacteria and I emphasize some types because not all are good for the body just like how not all will be bad for the body. In other words, there is such a thing as good and bad bacteria. To simplify things, good bacteria are the type of bacteria that are used to help the body in a positive way. Some are even used for treatment of certain ailments and diseases. The bad bacteria on the other hand are those pathogens that cause harm and imbalance to the body leaving it ill, in other words it is everything that the good bacteria is not.

Acidophilus

Acidophilus is basically the term that is commonly used by medical people to describe a substance which is a group of bacteria that is used for beneficial medical reasons especially human digestion. The composition usually includes L. Acidophilus, L Casei, L Bulgaricus just to site a couple of examples. It also is considered to be a probiotic which is another way of calling good bacteria. This substance has been touted to have a lot of applications in aiding the human health. Its strongest property though is to protect the body from harmful bacteria, other organisms and parasites. As it is digested and broken down it produces a substance called hydrogen peroxide that will create a toxic environment for any unhealthy organisms in the body. In terms of digestion, it is primarily considered to be essential due to its ability to initiate the production of certain digestive chemicals which aids in the maintenance of digestion and help it to function efficiently.

How long until it works?

The main thing to consider when it comes to treatments or to anything which is consumed or added into the body for the purpose of healing and influencing certain functions is that it all depends on the individual and his body chemistry. The uniqueness of human beings from each other is the biggest hindrance of determining for sure the exact time that acidophilus should work. Studies however have shown that although results differ as a lot of factors may come into play like diet, lifestyle and current state of health just to name a few, the progress usually is within the range of a couple days to about 2 weeks.

A Large part of your immune system resides in your intestinal tract.  Keep it healthy with acidophilus daily!  -

Can Chia Seed Improve Bowel Movements And Health?

According to some researches, it has been estimated that about 70 million Americans suffer from some type of bowel problems. So it is understandable that the interest of people are building up in terms of what can possibly help them in a more natural way as no one really likes taking medications and having the side effects of these synthetic substances. I most definitely am not saying that there is no need for them because they are tested in proven treatments and cure for whatever they are designed for however all we are saying and the other millions out there that advocates natural ways for relief is that it is always better to consider being more in line with how do body is supposed to work naturally.

Chia Seed

These seeds are derived from the plant called salvia hispanica which is a type of sage and is in the mint family. The main property in the seeds which are important to human health is the high contents of omega 3 fatty acids. As seeds it is widely used in kitchens all over the world and has been shown to be a staple of ancient Aztecs and is still currently a staple in that region but has sprung out in other regions as well these days and has been grown commercially. When eaten raw they are able to maintain being a good source of dietary fiber as well as the Omega 3 Fatty Acids. In recent decades though Chia Seeds have been slowly earning the right to be called a super food as it has numerous health benefits.

With the qualities mentioned above it has been shown that it can aid in the balance of the body in terms of retaining fluids and electrolytes. It also has the ability to help build muscle and other tissues and this is more related to how it is able to form somewhat of a gel in the stomach and aid in the slowing down of the processing of carbohydrates which helps the body nourish itself more efficiently and aid in lessening sugar level spikes. Also more to the point of being able to build tissue and muscle, it is a great source of protein and boron which has been proven to aid in the absorption of calcium by the body.

Chia Seeds, Bowel Movements and Health Benefits

The key to how Chia can be beneficial in improving bowel movements and health for that matter is its high fiber content. Both soluble and insoluble fiber is present in chia seeds and this allows it to be more effective than other sources of fiber. Fiber helps with bowel movements by binding itself with the contents of the stomach so with ample amounts of water stool will be passed more easily and toxins that also has bounded with the fiber will be flushed away as well which in the long run will influence various health benefits like lowered cholesterol, healthier colon, alleviate constipation and even may promote weight loss as fiber also allows you to feel fuller longer.

Added fiber in the diet will increase bowel movements and help cleanse the colon.  A clean colon will help you loose weight and live healthier.  -Darrell Miller. http://vitanetonline.com/
